FOR A VOICE IN THE WORKPLACE

We are thrilled to share that we won our union election! Out of 125 eligible APPs, 73% of the 105 ballots returned resoundingly voted “YES” to join UNAC/UHCP, the leading union for health care professionals in California and Hawaii.

By joining UNAC/UHCP, we have joined 35,000 health care professionals across California and Hawaii in a union that has over fifty years of experience bargaining contracts. UNAC/UHCP members have won collective bargaining agreements that have improved patient care and elevated standards in the health care profession.

What’s next?
We are excited that UNAC/UHCP will guide us in bargaining our first contract.

OUR VISION

We know that forming a union of APPs at SRS gives us a strong collective voice to address the most important aspects of our profession, including:

  • stronger advocacy for patient care,

  • sustainable workloads,

  • work-life balance,

  • transparency in workplace policies, and

  • competitive wages and benefits.

WE ARE CHOOSING TO JOIN UNAC/UHCP

UNAC/UHCP represents more than 35,000 health care professionals throughout California and Hawaii.

UNAC/UHCP has raised workplace standards for Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Certified Nurse Midwives, Registered Nurses, and many other classifications of health care professionals. UNAC/UHCP members have fought for and won:

  • Greater fairness by establishing a transparent pay scale with guaranteed step increases and yearly across the board raises,

  • Improved health care benefits, such as no-cost employee health care for employees and dependents at Kaiser Permanente,

  • A voice in the workplace by establishing workload committees to discuss manageable workloads,

  • Historic wage increases at an average of $20/hour for thousands of Sharp HealthCare Registered Nurses,

  • Retirement benefits with a defined pension, 401(k), and retiree medical insurance at Kaiser Permanente,

  • Industry-leading professional development to support continuing education and career advancement.

JOIN THE MOVEMENT

In July of 2023, nearly 600 Physician Assistants at Kaiser Permanente Northern California voted to join UNAC/UHCP.

In October of 2023, 400 Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists from Kaiser Permanente in Northern California joined UNAC/UHCP.

THE IMPACT OF JOINING UNAC/UHCP

"Before the union, our administration worked the NP/PAs like doctors, but treated us like clerical staff. Now that we are part of UNAC/UHCP, we are more respected and protected as a work group.

Our workload is now more fair and appropriate, and we are able to speak up and take care of our patients without fear of retaliation.”
